Match Play Research

Pioneer Athletics works with Dr. Grady Miller at North Carolina State University.

This past fall we participated in a Turf Grass Colorant Study that was conducted at North Carolina State University. The study was conducted by Kyle Briscoe who is a graduate student working with Dr. Grady Miller. The study was a comparison of the various turf colorant products commercially available. In all, there were 18 treatments that were applied to two different dormant turf grasses.

Match Play products gave good color intensity and good color retention. Our colors are stable whereas many competitive products become blue in shade upon exposure. Match Play fared well in comparison to many of the competitive products. We learned a good deal about dilution rate and spray rate.

The study results suggest further investigation regarding the timing and methodology of application to optimize color intensity and durability.
